It
does not get much better than this...
06:02:2010
Today
the course wound its way through some secluded islands
and pristine limestone karsts before ending up at the Sheraton
Resort in Krabi. One
of the best vantage points was up the rigging of Shane
Granger's 80 foot Norwegian galeass Vega.
The 6 to 8 knot Northerly breeze was enough for the yachts to get going
and apart from some light patches in the lee of the islands all yachts
managed to complete the entire course. Photographic opportunities appeared
around every corner. Some highlights included the Russian models on Karim
Khamzin's Photo Cat and Patti Serry's 50m
Indonesian phinisi Silolona and
when the 120
year old,Vega
came together under full sail. Savour a few images on this Race Report
and look forward to the Photo Gallery after the regatta.
In
the Racing Class Ben
Copley's Katsu had
a change of fortune and was able to take out the daily double of line
and handicap honours. Mike Downard's Switchblade sailing under
Team Turkey corrected out in second place, less than a minute behind Katsu
but two first places has them holding onto the overall lead. Third place
for John Vause's Ruby Tuesday keeps them inline for a podium
place.
Cruising
A saw Niels Degenkolw's Phoenix make it three wins in a row and
go to the top of the class. Once again Hugh Thompson's Fidgi
took second place and Jon Button/Phil Kendall's Simba is in third
place. Amazingly the top three boats have finished all races in the same
order.
Bill
Crump's Fistral made it three wins in a row and as other boats
have juggled the order, they have built a insurmountable lead in the Cruising
B class. Graham Tuckey's Optoloi did one better than yesterday
to slot into second place. Kevan Perrins Rusalka features back
in the results with third place.
Three
wins in a row for Hans Rahmann's Voodoo makes them the undisputed
champions of the Firefly 850 class. Roger Kingdon's Moto Inzi
stepped up to the challenge and take second place but falls well short
of the leader. Third place for Chris Jongerius The Frog lifts
them to be tied on points with Moto Inzi and the final race tomorrow
will be the deciding factor for the podium spots.
First place for Mark Pescott's Sumersalt elevates them to Overall
leader in the Multihull Racing class. Second place for Dave Wales The
Sting slips the smallest multihull competing down a rung to second
overall. Grenville Fordham's Da Vinci Nina makes a return to
the top three places but will need a miracle to topple the leaders with
one race to go. Fergus Wilmer/Henry Kaye's Thor once again galloped
away with line honours but the light weather is hampering their ability
to convert this to a handicap win..
Once
again Bill Phelps Maharani got the better of Hermann Schwarz's
Vienna Cat in the two boat Multihull Cruising class and will
finish up in the same order.
Tomorrow
is the final day, Race Day 4, sponsored by Silolona and Diva Andaman.
The fleet will set sail from Krabi and head back to Ao Chalong in what
should be a magnificent and fast downhill run under spinnaker. The final
prize giving presentation and party will be at Kan Eang 2 were the Overall
prizes will be presented by The Regatta committee and the Ao Chalong Yacht
Club.
