2005-06 AsianYachting Calendar OUT NOW!

Wow! 25 Major sailing events and still counting...
While some developed sailing nations are complaining about declining interest in youth racing pursuits, the Asian region is only just beginning to embrace sailing as a competitive sport. Anything from individual Passage Races from Hong Kong to the Philippines or Vietnam, Cruising Rally's through Indonesia and Andaman Islands (India) plus a string of International standard Regatta's extending from Phuket in SW Thailand, sweeping across the Kra Peninsular and the South China Sea through to Hong Kong (China), come together each year, to form the 2005-06 Calendar and the beginnings of the 2006-07 Season Which your totally ICT dedicated yachting media company based in Pt Dickson, Malaysia have annually compiled at: http://asianyachting.com/asiancalendar.htm It's absolutely amazing how this has developed up over the years, because if you go back 4 or 5 years we only had 6 or 7 major events to publish on the AsianYachting Calendar back then.
My, my! How we have grown?

Some armchair admirals have stated, they think there are to many events and some should be dropped. There is little or no chance of that happening, as long as national and state governments further implement their inter-linked Marina building program (Mainly Malacca Straits along west Kra coast to Phuket) In the past, this has resulted in significantly opening up the coastal waterways between these rapidly developing South East Asian (SEA) tiger economies and attract visiting yachts to compete at events by providing safe year round berthing and repair facilities. We are presently at a stage where State Tourism Associations can see the benefits of sponsoring regional sporting events that can also promote their unique tropical lifestyle and beautiful surroundings to the assembled worlds media. Hopefully lessens learnt from bringing the Yachting Industry to Asia in the first place, will eventually filter through and see further Marine Infrastructure improvements and the creation of a organizational structure and advisors, needed to urgently work towards developing a vibrant Yachting Tourism sector.

With all this foreign investment activity taking place around here, it's good to see the multi-nationals are ready to stage International events like the Swedish Match Tour - Monsoon Cup is gracing the shores of Terengganu for the 50th pro match-racing tour event held so far. Other new Calendar inclusions are the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines, 2 major Club Events in Singapore and 3 in Thailand. We also have one previously popular event postponed (Asean Regatta) due to a lack of interest and the decline of class 1 racing boats in the region.

All NEW Look for 05-06: First time Sailors intending to sail in the Asian Region, can now find links to local yacht clubs, country associations and sailing organisations that annually run racing or training programs are now at the bottom of page below the Calendar. You will notice that during this seasons update we have included links to past years AY Race Reports and the 2002/03 2003/04 2004/05 AYGP Championship results, so as our International browsers can read them if interested.

If you would like to advertise on the Rotating Banners, at the top of the AY Calendar page, which is widely used as a reference point plus extensively copied and reproduced or linked to by other website's - 6 spots are available from as little as US50 per month (Min 6 months). To join our happy advertisers club and support local business the full AY Advertising Rates and the rapidly expanding Shopping Mall are at http://AsianYachting.com/Mall/Advertising.htm Obligation free quotes are available by E-mailing: info@asianyachting.com

Due to the postponement of the Asean Regatta the number of ***** 5 star AY Grand Prix Championship events for the 2006-07 Season has been reduced to eight. A few regatta's have asked, how to become a AY GP Championship event, to which the answer is that there should be at least 5 or 6 racing yachts regularly competing in the top IRC division for the event to be considered.

Let me know if there is any major sailing events we have missed or you would like to see added to the AY Calendar. Once again, if you found this AY Calendar News enjoyable enough please forward it onto your sailing friends or better still get them to freely Subscribe to the fully automated AY Circulation List at: http://asianyachting.com/subscribe.asp to receive any further Press Releases, Race Reports and popular monthly emailed News and Views
