kept its perfect record intact, winning first place yet again to make

Karakoa
bags the Singapore
Straits 2003
This years Volvo SSR will go down as one of the windiest regattas
ever to be raced in SE Asian waters. It has taken nine years to coincide
the regatta dates with the unpredictable NE Monsoon winds that
can amazingly transform this event into hard slogs to windward, fast 2
sail reaches and wild planning downwind slides.

Jelik
Lost to the sea
About 2:00pm on Dec 19th Frank Pong's almighty 77ft yacht Jelik
was sailing on delivery from Port Dickson, Malaysia to the Philippines
when she lost her keel and capsized about 400 nm from Manila. One
Brit and all 6 regular Philippino crew members had only moments to get
out/off the boat and climb up on the upturned hull. More

held on to take the overall title by one point from Linklaters
Mandrake and a fast finishing Hi-Fidelity climbing

- This year it's Stella
The 2002
RMIR champion is Warwick
Downes and his crew on the Sydney
38 Stella with 4
seconds and one first. Amir Zohri's Gotcha Lagi! hung onto second
place for a consecutive year and Frank Pong's big performance on the windward/leewards
displaced Dato Razif's Piccolo to forth place overall in the
racing classes. Stella also took out racing A and Gotcha

Asean Regatta 2002 - It's Yo!
Peter Ahern's
Yo! added 2 further second places to his consistent tally
to leap frog Ray Roberts on Luna Nuova the overnight
leader who could only manage a 4th and 6th today to take overall 1st and
2nd places respectively. Ten of the fastest racing yachts and some
of the best sailing teams that Australia, Singapore, Thailand and
Hong Kong could muster took
to the waters of Admiral Marina Port Dickson. Go

Even though he didnt break the race record, Frank
Pong is happy that Jelik has finally claimed
not only line honours
over the 330nm course, but the Hainan

China Coast Regatta
Fred Kinmonth's Sydney
38 Stella showed they will again be a major force on the
Asian Yachting Regatta's this year with a convincing 4 wins and a second
to clinch the 2002 title. She was the winner in 2000 and runner up last
