26 July - Australian Maid crossed the finish line in Benoa shortly after midnight at 00:17 hrs to win the Darwin-Bali Race on handicap from Helsal 11. Good conditions made for very exciting and close racing with only a few hours separating the two yachts at the finish after 4 days of racing. John Wardill's popular Australian Maid is said to have been reaching speeds of close to 20 knots and Helsal 11 topping 30 knots while surfing the large swells into Bali.

all came down to a sail off race to decide the winner of the Tritex Phuket
Match Racing Championships held in Ao Chalong, Phuket last weekend.

SAN FERNANDO RACE 2001
Lawrie Smith's decade old record of two days,
two hours and two minutes for the San Fernando race is no more. Glory
now belongs to Benoit Lesaffre and his crew aboard the 50' catamaran Atmosphere
who broke the record set in 1991 with just ten minutes to spare. The new
record now stands at two days, one hour & fifty two minutes.GO

The Lasers Asia Pacific Championship is coming to Darwin! This is not a rumor the NT District Laser Class Association (NTDLCA), supported by the NTYA and the Darwin Sailing Club in North Australia have secured the Laser Asia Pacific Champs for Darwin from 17 to 24 May 2003. They will be sailed as a combined event with the regions 2003 Arafura Games which also includes the sport of sailing as a competitive discipline.
